YOUR CHOICE, EXPLAINED

PRIVACY &
ANALYTICS.

We use a small, consent-based measurement system to understand whether The Red Bugle is being read. It is designed to count browsing, not to identify people.

Your choice comes first.

The analytics prompt gives the same prominence to Allow analytics and Reject. If you reject it, or your browser sends a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal, this site does not run its own analytics measurement. You can reopen the privacy preference control at any time.

Browsers are not people.

If you consent, the site creates a random identifier for this browser and a separate temporary session identifier. These help us count page views, unique browser visitors, unique visits and revisits. They do not tell us who you are, and they cannot reliably say how many people share a browser or device.

Time means active reading time.

We measure a page only while it is visible and the window is in use. Measurement pauses when you leave the tab or window and after inactivity. It is not a stopwatch for all the time a tab happens to be open.

What the site records.

With consent, the site records the page path and title, the referring page where available, the random browser and session identifiers, and active foreground time. A session expires after 30 minutes without activity. We do not use browser fingerprinting and do not store raw IP addresses in this analytics system.

Reporting window and cleanup.

Reports cover the latest 90 days by default, and the owner can change that window. Older records are excluded from reports immediately. Expired records and identifiers are removed incrementally during consenting visits, owner reporting and retention-setting changes; physical deletion may take longer when the site has little activity. There is no background deletion deadline promised by this notice.

What this notice does not cover.

Limited server security and operational logs may still be necessary to protect and run the service. Platform-level analytics, if any, are separate from this site’s consent-based measurement. Rejecting this site’s analytics does not promise that every possible record made by browsers, networks, hosting providers or other services disappears.

Private owner access.

The password-protected owner console uses essential, secure session cookies, not analytics cookies. Owner passwords are stored only as salted password hashes. A private one-time setup cookie permits the authorised owner to create a password; it does not itself grant console access. Owner login and setup pages are excluded from audience measurement.
